Congratulations to the Jazz Ensemble, awarded 1st Place High School Big Band/Best Large Ensemble in DownBeat Magazine’s 36th Annual Student Music Awards to be published in their June issue.

Howard, a music major, was selected as a premiere alto saxophonist in one of the highest honors in arts afforded to high school students in the U.S.: membership in the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra, presented by the Monterey Jazz Festival, the oldest jazz festival in the world. He performed at the festival which was held in Monterey last Sept. 20-23. In April, Howard was also named to the Reno Jazz Festival All-Star Combo, one of only 6 musicians chosen at the festival. Her performed a saxophone solo at the Festival Showcase Concert at the end of the festival. Howard was also the top winner of the 2012 VCHS Conservatory Honors Scholarship Competition last April.
Kanoa was chosen for the Bands of America National Honor Band. She will perform in March in Indianapolis.
The Studio band attended this year’s 38th Annual Campana Jazz Festival at Almador Valley High School in Pleasanton on 02/08/2013 and placed 7th in the Middle School Division.
